“Ladybug”, “Firefly”, “Snail”, “Rain” and “Seashell” Art Challenge

Ladybug - pencil pastel drawing painting shadowheartchallenge day 18Here is a look at day 18 to 22 of the #Shadowheartchallenge. This little one is “Ladybug” day 18 of the challenge. I’ve made her using Derwent Pastel Pencils and Graphite Pencil.

Firefly - pencil pastel drawing painting shadowheartchallenge day 19

This one I really, really like. I think because of the sweetness and the soft colors. It’s a firefly, day 19. Made with Derwent Pastel Pencils, Panpastel and Graphite Pencil.

Snail - pencil pastel drawing painting shadowheartchallenge day 20

And here is my little snail. I don’t really like snails, but this one, for day 20, is a cutie Used just a Graphite Pencil and a blending stump for this one.

Rain - pencil pastel drawing painting shadowheartchallenge day 21

When I saw the prompt for day 21, Rain, I immediately started singing this song by the band Travis. Question is, where does the rain come from…? I’ve made her with Derwent- and Caran d’Ache Pastel Pencils and Graphite Pencil.

Seashell - pencil pastel drawing painting shadowheartchallenge day 22

And the last one I’m going to show is day 22, Seashell. “The voice of the sea speaks to the soul”. Made her with a Graphite Pencil and a blending stump.

Otherwise not much to tell about these prompts, except I’ve had a lot of fun making them

Have a nice day! Be creative!

“Dryad”, “Satyr”, “Lost” and “Feline” Art Challenge

Dryad - pencil pastel drawing painting shadowheartchallenge day 14

And again a little update of the #Shadowheartchallenge I did in July.  (If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen them already https://www.instagram.com/janetrozenberg)

This one I’ve made the prompt of day 14 “Dryad”. A Dryad is a tree nymph, or tree spirit.

I’ve made her using Derwent- and Caran d’Ache Pastel Pencils and Graphite Pencil

Satyr - pencil pastel drawing painting shadowheartchallenge day 15

This little cutie is a “Satyr” for day 15. It’s a little creature with goat-like features. Of course mine became a girl with a little flowery dress

For her I’ve used a yellow Derwent Pastel Pencil and Graphite Pencil.

Lost - pencil drawing painting Shadowheartchallenge day 16

The prompt for day 16 was “Lost” and immediately I thought of a quote from a beautiful poem of Lord Alfred Tennyson “In Memoriam A.H.H.”, which he wrote for a dear friend.

“Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.”

I’ve made her with Cretacolor Nero Soft 2 and a blending stump.

Feline - pencil pastel drawing painting shadowheartchallenge day 17

The prompt of day 17 was “Feline”. My parents sweet cat Boris passed away that week so I’ve made this little Feline in memory of him. R.I.P sweet little Boris.

I’ve also used Derwent Pastel Pencils and Graphite Pencil for him.

Have a nice day! Be creative!

“Sleep” “Marriage” and “Forest” Art Challenge

Sleep - pencil pastel drawing painting shadowheartchallenge day 11

I’m a bit behind… Not with the challenge but with showing it on my blog… But here’s an update!

This little girl I’ve made for the prompt of day 11 “Sleep”. She’s ready to go to bed and dream sweet dreams with her little teddy close by.

I’ve used graphite pencil for the drawing and some PanPastel for the background.

Marriage - pencil pastel drawing painting shadowheartchallenge day 12

Day 11 was “Marriage” and I made this little couple who is joined together as one. I really love this one, the faces turned out so sweet.

Drawing again with graphite pencil and the background is done with a stencil and PanPastel.

For Day 12 I’ve used a drawing I did last year when I’ve first started drawing. It is just a year ago but it feels like I’ve been drawing all my life though.
Still love this one a lot especially because of the wonderful quote. Don’t know whose it is, but I love it.
I’ve used a Pigma Micron pen to make it.

I will soon be back with another update on the #ShadowHeartChallenge! Here on instagram you can see them all https://www.instagram.com/janetrozenberg

“Fairy”, “Donkey”, “Sparkle” and a big surprise! Art Challenge

Toadstool fairy girl - girl mixed media drawing painting shadowheartchallenge day 8

Today is the eleventh day of the #Shadowheartchallenge. And I didn’t miss a day Not every prompt was easy, some days I just didn’t know what to make of it. And there are a few difficult ones coming

This little “Fairy” was day 8 of the challenge. I’ve made her a couple of weeks ago on a scrap piece of cardboard (10cm x 10cm) and thought she was a perfect fit. I did the drawing with graphite pencil, and the coloring with Panpastels. For the background I’ve used a stencil with Panpastels.

Donkey - pencil pastel drawing painting shadowheartchallenge day 9

The prompt for day 9 was “Donkey”. Had a few (a lot) difficulties with the little Donkey, I have much to learn. But he turned out kind of cute. I’ve used Derwent- and Caran d’Ache Pastel Pencils and Graphite Pencil.

Day 10 was “Sparkle” and I had a bit of trouble to make something of that. So I just started looking around my workspace and saw the little sticky pearls. That gave me the idea for this little sparkling girl. She’s really tiny, the scrap piece of cardboard is only 5cm x 5cm. For the drawing I’ve used Graphite Pencil, Caran d’Ache Pastel Pencils and Panpastels.

Sparkle - mixed media pastel drawing painting shadowheartchallenge day 10

And then this morning I’ve got a big surprise! I was 1 of the 2 winners of the Art Challenge of this week! How cool is that! Soooo happy!

I just started drawing about a year ago and it’s such a huge thing for me to win something in a challenge with such beautiful entries from all over the world. It really motivates me to continue doing what I love to do! Thanks so much @Shadowheartcollective!

Had to sketch this little happy girl in my diary this morning

“Magic” and “Queen” Art Challenge

Magic - pencil pastel drawing painting shadowheartchallenge day 6

And the art challenge #Shadowheartchallenge  goes on! The first week is over and I did them all! Don’t know if I’m able to do the whole month, but so far so good

The prompt of day 6 was “Magic”. I thought of magicians and then I remembered I had bought a stack of XL playing cards at a thrift store a while ago. And what is a magician without his cards!

I’ve first put a thin layer of Golden Absorbent ground on the card and let it dry thoroughly. Then I started drawing with Graphite Pencil, trying to place one spade in he hair and one around her neck. The coloring I did with Panpastels. Her hair is colored gold with a little sparkle. Really love how she turned out.

Today the prompt is “Queen”. I like doing something different with my girls hair, so this little queen wears a lot of crowns. She just couldn’t choose, so she wears them all :)
I’ve made her in my art journal using Graphite pencils and Caran d’Ache- and Derwent pastel pencils.

One week down, three to go!

“Flower” and “Poison” Art Challenge

Flower - pencil pastel drawing painting shadowheartchallenge day 4The art challenge #Shadowheartchallenge is keeping me very busy but I still love it very much! Luckily I have some things made already that I can use as well, like this little flower.

I’ve made her a couple of weeks ago not knowing that “Flower” would be a prompt in this challenge. I’m glad I did because often a drawing takes me a couple of hours and to do that every day is not really doable.
So this cutie is my entry for day 4.

Today, day 5,  the prompt is “Poison” and the only thing I could think of was love poison nr 9, I guess I won’t be the only one I’ve used some more vibrant colors for this one, because she’s a bit of a dangerous girl. I love how her heart shaped eyes turned out, she makes you love her

I’ve made them both using Graphite pencilCaran d’Ache pastel pencils and Panpastels. For the background I’ve used a stencil.  Pastels are still my most favorite art supply, love how soft the colors are even the more vibrant ones.

“Beast” and “Sprite” Art Challenge

Beast - pencil pastel drawing painting shadowheartchallenge day 2

I’m still going strong with the art challenge #Shadowheartchallenge. Yesterday the prompt was “Beast” and I made this sweet beast

I’m not sure if I can draw angry or evil creatures, I’ve never tried. They always come out some kind of cute.

Today the prompt was “Sprite”. I had to google that one, no idea what it was, accept for the soda It’s kind of a fairy but they look a bit like a mix between insects and flowers. A bit hard to explain…

So I made what I thought is a sprite. She is a mix of different insects and her hair is made of blueberries. I think she’s cute

I’ve made them both with Derwent- and Caran d’Ache Pastel Pencils and Graphite Pencil.

It’s so great to share this on instagram, get all the lovely and encouraging reactions and see what stunning things other participants make, love it!

“Moonlight” Art Challenge

Moonlight - pencil pastel drawing painting shadowheartchallenge day 1

I have had a some doubt whether I should take part in this art challenge or not. Never done anything like this and I’m better at starting things than continuing things

But I liked the prompts and it gave me ideas that I otherwise never would have had. So I just started! I dont know if I can manage to do them all, but I will try.

The challenge is from @Shadowheartcollective and the tag is #Shadowheartchallenge. You can find them on Instagram and Facebook. (you can find me on Instagram to @Janetrozenberg)
It started today so you can still join in!

The first prompt is “Moonlight” and so this is what I made of it. I did the drawing with graphite pencil and all the rest with Panpastels. I had a lot more things in mind like stars or maybe an owl, but she looks so soft and sweet in the moonlight so I left her like this.

It’s really great to see the beautiful things other people make of the prompt. They are all so very different, love it!

“Trust Yourself” and “Wine is Bottled Poetry” Mixed Media

Trust yourself - girl mixed media drawing painting

These are two little cardboard girls I did for two dear friends.

“Trust Yourself” I made last month when we where on holiday in France. It was the fifth or sixth time we went to lovely Pfaffenbronn. Over the years I became good friends with someone who lives there. It’s a shame we only see each other maybe once a year or less, but it’s always so great when we are together! We have so much in common and can talk for hours about health, food, homeopathy, spirituality, etc. etc. Very nice to spent time with her and we learn a lot from each other. But the holidays are always to short …

This year I made her this little girl. I did the drawing with graphite pencil, for most of the coloring I used Prismacolor pencils, Pan Pastels and a stencil for the background and Molotow acrylic pen for the highlights. Almost forgot, I’ve started by putting a thin layer of Golden Absorbent ground on the cardboard.

“Wine is Bottled Poetry” I’ve made in January of this year. Also for a very good friend, who lives a little closer fortunately She is so very creative, makes the most beautiful things and she is one of my best friends.
The little squares of cardboard that I use to make these girls, I’ve got from her. I was so pleased with the scraps of cardboard that she gave me that I made her this wine girl. She loves her glass of red wine

I’ve used paper from the liquor store, some patch paper and stamps for the background, different brands of Acrylics to paint her, Prismacolor pencils and Molotow acrylic pen for the details. The little silver dots are made with Ranger Liquid Pearls. The star is a little mirror.

I believe they where both pleased with their girls.

“It’s a Boy!” Mixed Media

It's a Boy - girl and boy mixed media drawing paintingIt appears that I can only draw girls. What comes out of my pencil are always girls faces …
I can’t seem to help it Until one day in February …

I sat down at my desk, took a little piece (6cm x 6cm) of scrap cardboard and started drawing. And then it happened! The little face began to look a little less girlish … I was almost afraid to breathe but kept on drawing. Could this really be the first time I drew a boy…?

It's a Boy Boy - girl and boy mixed media drawing paintingAnd yes it was! There he was on my desk, on this little piece of scrap cardboard, my first boy! And I loved him!

I didn’t want him to feel alone so I made him a little friend, of course that turned out to be a girl again…

Until this day, this is the only boy that ever came out of my pencil. But I think he’s alright with all his girls

I put Golden Absorbent ground on the cardboard. Used some FW Acrylic ink for the background. Amsterdam acrylic paint for the faces. Graphite pencil for the drawing and the rest I did with Prismacolor pencils. And off course some white with Molotow acrylic pen.
